Cognitive Science Colloquium Lecture: 'Word-Word Links in Typical and Atypical Development'

Speaker: Natalia Arias Trejo, Professor of Experimental Psychology, National Autonomous University of Mexico

Title: "Word-Word Links in Typical and Atypical Development"

Abstract: Research has placed attention on how children learn the links between a word and a referent. However, until very recently we started to study the emergence of word-word links in typical development. This talk will be focused on three series of studies that have the following objectives: To explore the types of direct and indirect lexical links that infants create at early stages of typical development; to evaluate the links that children with Down syndrome may have formed; and the very recent investigation of this link in a bilingual lexicon under a language not studied for those purposes like Yucatan-Maya. I hope to engage the audience in a rich debate in which factors that allow for the emergence of word-word relationships and different scenarios are discussed.Audience:
